Chapter 7 notes – Making The Feature

For those of you that don’t have an over abundance of free time in your life, I have taken the liberty to provide four tips from each chapter from Dennis  Wilcox’s book, Public Relations Writing and Media Techniques

Chapter 7

1. In order to write a news feature story you must utilize your right-brain thinking.  I know what your thinking, just kidding, I am no mind reading.  Anyway, this includes intuition, image-making, and conceptualization.

2. There are different parts to a feature story.  Formatting a feature is similar to a news release so it shouldn’t be too tough.   Headline, The Lead, The Body, The Summary, Photo and Graphics.

3. A personality profile is a great way to bring a celebrity or whomever it is about, down to earth.  It shows who the person really is when they are not in the professional setting.  Usually can be found on the cover of large magazines.
