Topic of the Week – 10 – Martin Waxman Interview

What did you learn?

I learned a lot about podcasting and useful it can really be.  For example, Martin has scheduled shows in which he covers pr and social networking.  He enjoys this because its like blogging but once you say something, its said.  Martin says that he is a rewriter and he will go through and perfect things but with podcasts he just goes with it and it usually turns out great.  It was also very insightful to hear what an employer looks for in potential employees.

What surprised you?

I was surprised to hear that honesty and integrity have become even more important now that social networking is bigger.  I wonder why that is.  It would make sense that because you have to be more honest because it is so much easier to lie.  That is, because there is no one to hold you accountable for what you say or proclaim online you have to trust and be honest or the whole system fails.  I was surprised to hear that you still need the traditional skills in order to still be attractive to employers.

What do you want to know more about?

Martin mentioned in the interview that a lot of the Canada PR firms are a lot smaller of operations than those of the United States, I would like to know why that is.  I would like to learn more about how what it takes to start up my own public relations company.  Also, how much longer will the traditional skills of public relations be necessary? Will this ever go away? I would like to hear more about what it takes to really stand out to potential employers?
